I wrote my picks yesterday and I underestimated how much fervor I’d have for the American Civil Religion today. Here’s some bombastic BBQ/Fireworks/Declaring Independence music.
Fang island – Fang Island (Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify)
Metal, fireworks, slams, smiles. Rock and roll at its finest. Sounds like 💪
M83 – Before the Dawn Heals Us (Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify)
It’s M83 before they decided to remake 80s pop in their image. Best fireworks album ever made. So romantic. Much smooches.
Akron/Family – Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free (Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify)
Most patriotic album ever. River is almost a religious experience. Everyone is Guilty is the most American truth.
Hamilton (Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify)
It’s a musical first, but the rap references a lot of the past 30 years of rap history. It might be the first time rap has resonated with a lot of people in America, which is kind of a bummer, but no reason to skip this. Plus it shows the founding of America honestly as humans with faults, which is better than treating the “founding fathers” as infallible saints.
